Crime

E-mail Print PDF
Many people have expressed concerns to me regarding crime and crime related issues. Contrary to what many the media lead you to believe, Ireland enjoys very low serious crime rates. Ireland consistently ranks at the bottom of international homicide league tables issued by the United Nations!  Whilst murders do occur here, and are to be deplored utterly, statistically speaking they are a rarity. One is more likely to die in an industrial accident in Ireland then to be the victim of a homicide. On average there are between 50 and 60 homicides in Ireland every year. By contrast, there are approximately 75 work-related deaths every year.

MY ISSUES

CRIME
Crime affects all our lives . I will take real steps to see that anti social behaviour and public drinking are curbed in our community. Drug dealing threatens us all , I will use the Council's powers to repossess council property that is being used and abused by drug pushers. See my latest article on this page.

ENVIRONMENT
I am working on increasing the frequency of collection and the range of items accepted for recycling. I will also push for more frequent junk collections which can have a real effect on keeping our streets, lanes and public areas clean and safe for our children to play in.
We need to be able to get around our city easily without the traffic snarl-ups that make city life
so
difficult. I am working to increase the number of cycle lanes and ensure that they are planned as separate from road traffic and not just painted lines.

AN GHAEILGE
Geallaim daoibh , a Chomhghleacaithe, go gcuirfidh mé brú ar an gComhairle go gcomhlíonfaidh sí a dualgais maidir le húsáid na teanga i gcúrsaí na Comhairle agus go n-úsáidfear í ar bhonn níos leithne sa Seomra Comhairle, i  bhfógraí agus i bhfoilseacháin na Comhairle ná ‘an cúpla focal'.
