Dear Neighbour,

LANES CLEAN-UP

Many thanks for all your help and encouragement during our recent Cherryfield Lanes clean-up. With your assistance, we removed a huge quantity of bottles, cans, rubbish and "fly-tipped" refuse from the Lanes which are in much better condition now. A Lanes clean-up should be undertaken every few months or so to ensure that they are kept clean.

PRELIMINARY QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS

In conjunction with the Lanes clean-up, I also circulated a questionnaire in the area seeking local views on the Lanes. Below are a summary of the responses received so far (and to those of you who haven’t yet returned the questionnaire, you might please let me have your views on the issue that Michael Mulcahy TD and I can present the complete findings to South Dublin County Council):-

(a) 50% of people both use their lane for vehicle access and store their car within the garage;

(b) 60% feel that access should be restricted to residents and should not be used as a right of way; and(c) 60% believed that gates should be erected at entrances / exits to the Lanes and would be prepared to pay for them.

JUNK COLLECTION

During both my recent canvas of the area and the Lanes clean-up, I received a number of requests for the organisation of a junk collection by South Dublin County Council. Arising out of my representations on the matter, I have been informed by the Council that the last junk collection in our area was carried out in 2004. I understand from the Council that a junk collection is provided once every 5 years. At present, the Council have not finalised their schedule for future junk collections. As soon as they have the schedules prepared, the areas on the list will be informed. As you have elected me to the Council, I will, of course, raise this matter at a meeting of the Council myself. If you wish to raise personal, local or national issues with me at any time, please do not hesitate to do so. All matters raised with me will be dealt with in strict confidence.
