On Saturday May 16th the Campaign Team engaged in a local area cleanup yielding 28 bags of refuse from the greater Cherryfield area.

The laneways of Cherryfield are in a much better condition now after a weekend clean up by local Councillor Eamonn Walsh. Over twenty bags of rubbish were removed by Walsh and his team in a well organised clean up operation on Saturday 16th of May. Thousands of cans and bottles will now be recycled instead of littering the estate. Walsh said, "I've always understood the need for tidiness and good organisation and today we restored some civic pride to Cherryfield with a huge team effort, other candidates may talk about litter problems but we took care of the it". He went on to say "I've always been a practical man and its practical things like this that effect people's lives".

Walsh, a native of Cherryfield all his life was partially motivated to run for a seat on the council by a perceived lack of litter removal in his area. He says he has always had a keen interest in the environment and is deeply proud of his area. One of the pillars of his election campaign was improved rubbish collection and graffiti removal. He believes improved recycling facilities can reduce litter but ultimately what is needed is a return of civic spirit so that rubbish is disposed of properly. Eamonn views public drinking as part of this problem as the volume of aluminium cans can testify and wants to see greater Garda enforcement of the law in this area. He is convinced that locals can do their bit too, in his words "I wouldn't sleep in an untidy bedroom or drive around in a car filled full of rubbish so why would I put up with an untidy neighbourhood? Every reasonable person wants to see their locality kept clean and I'll make it a priority now having been elected to South Dublin County Council."
